Basic Ingredients that You Need in Your Kitchen

If you take a look at a recipe book, you will notice that most concoctions, whether simple or exotic, require a few common components. Although such constituents are basic, they are important in making your food more flavourful and more enticing to the taste buds. Here is a list of basic ingredients that your cooking station should have:

  1. Herbs and Spices - There is no doubt that these things can add so much wonders to you dishes. You can stock fresh ones including basil, parsley, garlic, and onion. Or, you can also get the preserved and powdered ones like cinnamon, chili, turmeric powder, and dried rosemary leaves.
  2. Oil - This is one of the most important things you should have in your kitchen. Most basic home recipes require sautéing or frying, and thus, oil (be it vegetable, corn, or olive) must always be in you cupboard.
  3. Baking Staples - This includes salt, flour, baking soda, powder, and yeast. These items are not only exclusive for baking, you can also incorporate them in other dishes.
  4. Canned or Frozen Vegetables and Fruits - These are extremely important if you consider health as an important factor in your culinary exploits.
  5. Meat - Of course, this is the basic and, most of the time, the main ingredient in every recipe. This should most definitely be in your freezer all the time. Unless, you are a vegetarian. And if that's the case, you can go for tofu as a substitute.
